Scarlet's Wake on Facebook

:|:REVIEWS:|: "Nottingham’s Scarlet’s Wake are first to take the stage on the final day, with their self-styled ‘dirty filthy rock metal’, which isn’t too far from the truth really. Musically tight, with excellent strong rock vocals from Emma Gunn, they play a solid heavy groove and riff-laden set, and are a perfect opening band. With Gunn encouraging the crowd to sing along and keeping momentum going, drummer Adam Jones pounding the kit so hard that it looked like it was going to wobble apart at one point and a noticeable gorgeous guitar tone and well-penned guitar licks, the only real minus point was that you couldn’t hear any bass, but hey, that’s not the bands fault. Well worth checking out, especially if soulful strong female rock vocals are your bag." - Femme Metal Festival Review, Metal-Discovery http://www.metal-discovery.com "Fest-Fatale is an annual event put together by Scarlet's Wake all in aid of domestic violence against women. *(Womens Aid -Charity). The event which showcases some of the best unsigned female-fronted metal and punk bands around is now in its third year and its first year on Halloween and at The Central in Nottingham... ...Scarlet's Wake are another band that get better and better every time that I see them. The band did an amazing job in getting this gig together and their performance was top drawer. Powerful heavy metal music played with complete control and passion and vocalist Emma Gunn has one of the silkiest voices out there." - Mark Sesin, Bitchslap Magazine http://www.bitchslapfanzine.com "The dedicated fans turned out to see Scarlet's Wake at The Central on Thursday evening, and weren't let down when they were treated to a 7 song set! Singer Gunn even had to write the set list on her arm so she didn't forget! Kicking things off with 'Autumn Burns', the band played an energetic set including intense but catchy 'Smile, I've Got Knives', and finished their storming set on 'Buried In A Beer Keg'. The band definitely gave it some welly, and although the Central wasn't packed, Scarlet's Wake definitely filled the room with noise." - Trent FM, Notts Unsigned http://www.nottsunsigned.co.uk/category/gig-reviews "Bringing all the noise and attitude possible from their Molotov of clattering drumming and chainsaw guitars, Nottingham's Scarlet's Wake are the real deal. Vocalist Emma Gunn possesses a phenomenal set of lungs, and attacks every stage she graces with venom and presence. This Siouxsie Sioux inspired Goth-punk outfit run on weapon-grade adrenaline, but combine their fury with a great solid ear for melody, ensuring their performance will stick in the memory for some time to come." - Al Draper, Upload Festival "Next on the line up, Scarlet's Wake came back to show Nottingham that Females can kick some Metal Infused Posterior too. Bringing out favourite tracks such as 'Chalk Outline', 'Voodoo Dawn', 'Little Box Of...' and 'Smile, I’ve Got Knives, -which has recently gained the attention of Trent FM along with numerous Radio Stations - Emma, Stoney, Amy and Adam displayed a set that emanated and conveyed Dirty Filthy Rock Metal alongside a good dose of crunchy riffs, hauntingly angsty vocals, thumping bass lines and intense beats that left a good few members of the audience not only surprised but enlightened. Vocalist Emma Gunn entered into the performance and despite her unassuming stature along with the rest of the guys 'n' gal she proved that this is a Band that deserve to be watched and taken notice of. Song XV was introduced as an ode to 15 minutes of fame and dedicated to Simon Cowell. Exuding the seductive tones in Emma's voice the Guitar, Bass and Drums all add to putting angst into and towards the music and unleashing a sound that gave the audience and insight into the deeper psyche of the human mind. Scarlet's Wake are a band that enter into a room unnoticed and throw that element of surprise that leaves a lot of the crowd searching for more and their Upload Performance bought that and much more. The guys were happy to take part in such an amazing day with some fantastic bands and my praises of them could be sung forever but to sum it up in just one word.....breathtaking." - Upload Festival Review, Nottingham Live Magazine "Headliners Scarlet's Wake emerged from the back of the room to shock the crowd with an intense brand of metal that was not expected upon first viewing their reserved female vocalist. Driven by their incredible drummer, they served up some classic dirty rock worthy of a crowd twenty times the size." - Drew Heatley, Left Lion "Scarlet's Wake are amazing. You might at first be put off by their heavy vibes but the female melodic vocals balances it all out very nicely. A must see!" - NML, Notts Unsigned, Trent FM "Headlining the event were Scarlet's Wake; a local Notts/Mansfield band. It's no doubt that this band were incredibly talented, and musically very tight. With the heaviest sound of all the bands tonight Scarlet's Wake certainly struck a chord with the Heavy Metal fans in the audience, including myself. Lead vocalist Emma's powerful voice certainly made an impact on me and I undoubtedly enjoyed their lively, dedicated performance. This band had a strong stage presence, bags of personality and catchy, thundering riffs. Make sure you look out for them in your area!" - Alice Durose, Wildchild Media, Moonshine Magazine "With the centre of Nottingham being saturated with the same bands consistently and all too predictably, it's due time that a band from the outskirts came and shook the City up a bit. Scarlet's Wake are not only a band to be reckoned with, but also one to be watched. Hailing from Mansfield, Derby, Long Eaton and Nottingham and consisting of Emma (vocals), Stoney (lead guitarist), Amy (bass), and Adam Jones on the drums -Scarlet's Wake are a routine mix of Rock/Metal that come packed with a heavier than hell punch, of which will wake their audience up wherever they may go. The contrasting beauty of Emma's powerful but haunting vocals added to a perfectly executed lead guitar from Stoney lays perfect musical foundations whilst an awe inspiring Amy on Bass and Adam on drums then bring together some amazing beats and riffs that make Scarlet's Wake a band exciting not only to hear but to watch also. With a set that includes songs like Voodoo Dawn, Chalk Outline, Smile I've Got Knives and a cracking version of Barracuda, Scarlet's Wake can only go up from here...they're a brilliant band to not only hear live but see too. Get yourself to a gig, you won't be sorry and if you're reading this whilst you're at The Intake for the gig tonight be ready to catch one of Nottinghamshire's most exciting new bands." - Helen Martin "Described as a band that blend the best parts of metal, heavy-rock and alt-rock by BBC reporter Stephen Hudyba, we like to describe them as simply kick-ass." - Exiled Radio "Next up all the way from Nottingham, was Rock four-piece Scarlet's Wake. They've got a Heavy-Rock sound which incorporates elements of Metal, Grunge and Punk for a strong, diverse direction that is powered along by Emma's strong, evocative vocal. At times there is an almost experimental, progressive quality to their music, it's refreshing to see a band who will take a few risks with their sound, and in this case it really pays off adding a distinctive and genuinely exciting edge to their finely crafted core sound. Live they have been consistently strong throughout this year's festival and they did not disappoint at The Barfly, delivering a performance that topped their two impressive previous efforts and showed why they more than deserved to get this far in the Festival." - Stephen Hudyba BBC WM "The second band of the evening was Nottingham based four-piece Scarlet's Wake. Musically they don't really fit into any genre 'boxes' and this is to their credit, the band having seemingly stripped the best parts from Metal, Heavy-Rock and Alt-Rock and crafted it into their own distinctive sound. Once again it was the quality of their material that really made them stand out, well-written lyrics and a great sense of energy and pace, it was another excellent set from a band with a great sound and some real potential." - Stephen Hudyba BBC WM "Travelling all the way from Nottingham to play the Festival were four-piece alternative rock act Scarlet's Wake. Their sound mixes elements of Hard-Rock, Alt-Rock and Metal for something that's instantly familiar yet with a tidy contemporary spin. Excellent complex percussion from Adam powered them through their set at a furious pace, giving their sound a sharp distinctive edge, and strong guitar work and a powerful, finely pitched vocal performance from Emma completed the package nicely. It was a tight measured performance on the night, and it saw them go down well with the Rainbow crowd." - Stephen Hudyba BBC WM |
